Mother’s Day Wish List

With mother’s day just around the corner I have taken it upon myself, as the only mom in the office, to put together some of my top mother’s day picks. Happy Mother’s day to all!

What's not to love? These bangles are so fun!

All moms dream of snuggling up on the couch with one of these comfy throws! They wash really well too.

Lyndsay's terrariums are so cute and easy to care for--they are the only plants I have time for.

Cuddle up on the couch with my new throw and tune into Bravo with a nice glass or two of fine wine after the kids go to bed.

Totally worth a small splurge on a great pair of statement earrings.

Open Studios, May 6th

It’s almost time again for one of our favorite events of the year, Open Studios here in the South End. It’s a great opportunity to check out some of Boston’s awesome local businesses, and to see the work of local artists who only open their studios for this event twice a year. Stop by the store to stock up on some of our great new pieces for spring, and to check out an installation of paper sculpture by our friend Aimee Empey-Rives, of Paper, Gowns & Glory. Here are a couple of must-sees for this Open Studios, which is Sunday, May 6th from 11am to 6pm.

Morgan & Milo

This adorable children’s shoe and clothing company holds a sample sale of their adorable line. I love to stock up on shoes for my two boys and they also make perfect gifts!

Emily Gallardo

Emily’s studio is always full of surprises. She is best known for her adorable greeting cards and custom invitations but she is also one of those creative types who always has a new art project to show off. I love her paper flowers and her crocheted pins.

PatchNYC
46 Waltham Street, COURTYARD

Patch is a great addition to the artist studios, and perfect for those who are looking to discover something unique in Boston. You may recognize some of their designs from Anthropologie and West Elm.

Simplemente Blanco

Fernanda’s neutral aesthetic is amazing. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Fabulous oil on canvas artist. Megan and I both have some of his Boston landscapes hanging in our homes.

A New Generation of M. Flynn Custom Jewelry

Tying the Knot!

Since we started making fine jewelry, we’ve been very lucky to work with a number of thoughtful, hands-on people on our custom projects. The coolest parts of making custom pieces are the unique touches — engravings, birth stones, the incorporation of old family stones and metals, and so on.

One of our favorite recent projects is a very special engagement ring we designed for a customer who came in with lots of ideas and lots of family heirlooms. When he first came in, he brought his grandmother’s engagement ring, along with an assortment of old rings from his mother that he wanted to put together into a modern engagement ring. When he shared his intentions with his girlfriend’s family, they enthusiastically gave him diamonds from within their family to include in the new ring. This piece was shaping up to be a pretty amazing symbol of two people and two families coming together, but it wasn’t complete without one more special touch — The couple had met while sailing, and so the client wanted to incorporate a nautical rope design into the ring.

Pretty amazing, right? Talk about team work! Here’s a picture of the final ring. Our photography does not do it justice but it was the story that was important to tell.
